(I dunno, the name just came to me)
As most of you know, it's finals week here at FIDM. In case you didn't know, it's finals week at FIDM. Either way, I've been busting my butt cranking out final projects for the last week. Tomorrow is the very last day, and the only day I have two classes. (Very fitting, I think. Let's me think I have plenty of time then WHAMMO! it's time to turn everything in.)
I finally finished the project for my very last class last night, presentation board and all. The longer the span of time from when I finished my project last night, the more random marker specs I keep finding on me... Anywho, back to today's story: Creating a Fashion Line (or at least the concept)
First, anyone who knows me knows I first have to set up my workspace for my project:
Complete with HEALTHY snacks, water, pens, paper, and my computer to provide music and reading material so I force myself to let the pen marks dry before continuing.
Then (though this part was already complete before I started working because it was the homework assignment for the past two weeks) I come up with "concept sketches" for pieces that form the collection.
Very basic, light pencil sketches on computer paper just to get the idea down.
Next, I take that sketch and create a proportional, flat sketch on tracing paper of the major elements:
I draw both sides separately and then cut them out and tape the tracing papers together slightly overlapping.
Next, using appropriate-weight pens I transfer the sketches to the layout paper, still in basic form:
Heavy outlines for the main outside shape and slightly thinner for shapes in the interior.
Then I take those sketches and add in extra details:
Starting to look more like real clothing, no?
Next I take the lightest marker and start adding shadows:
Giving the sketches more dimension
Next, more shadowing and a darker shadow for the inside part that show:
Pretty much all for the actual illustration for now.
Then I have to painstakingly cut out every set of flats:
12 in all, and using the tiny scissors my thumb was killing me after just half.
Next step is to put all the sketches on backing papers and mount them on the foamboard along with the fabric swatches:
Now we add the labeling:
And, last but not least, rendering the color on a corner of the sketch:
And that, my friends, is how you create a fashion collection concept board. I am just glad we did not also have to create samples for all of these. I may have run off, crossed the border, and never been seen again. Although, someone would most likely catch me before I even got to the border because, despite being in San Diego, I would be headed toward the Canadian border...
Later People!!!
By The Way: Bonus Pictures!!
This is the lovely mess that I am living incurrently, due to projects and moving out all being due at pretty much the same time:
Lovely, ain't it?
And here is the skirt I had to make for Monday's drafting class:
Hmm, apparently my socks wanted to make a cameo...But, that's what happens when your feet could pretty much double as water skis...
Tomorrow I will attempt to post pictures of my shirt for my draping final. That is, in between moving almost my entire room to my car... Peace Out!!!
